ScelfoDr. Peter Scelfo has spent almost his entire career in the health care field. He graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with honors and a certificate in clinical laboratory technology. Moving to Miami, Florida, he took a position as a cadiovascular technologist in the cardiac catheterization lab at Mount Sinai Medical Center. To continue his experience and education, he attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry, and graduated in 1979. He achieved a fellowship certificate from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2006. Upon graduation, he moved to Virginia. Along the path of forty-two years in practice, he has attended the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology's mass disaster course; witnessed several life-threatening emergencies, some of which called for his CPR involvement; and has always been CPR certified. Ironically, his personal journey involved seven cardiac catheterizations, five coronary artery stents, and ultimately, a quadruple bypass procedure in 2016. Somehow, the body of all this cardiac experience was sparked by the look of extreme fear on an associate's face and it occurred to Dr. Scelfo that sudden collapse in front of a child must be terrifying and would best be addressed early in life.
