Savinien Louismet OsbDom Savinien Louismet, OSB, 1858-1926, was born in Sens, France. He was raised in a devout Catholic family, and attended choir school at Sens and the Petit Séminaire at Auxerre. He became a Benedictine monk at the Abbey of La Pierrequi-Vire, making hs profession in 1877 at the age of 19. He was ordained a priest in 1882, then sent to the Benedictine mission in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). He served there for 13 years, but returned to Europe for health reasons. In 1902 he was made a temporary superior of Buckfast Abbey, where he remained for the rest of his life, while undertaking a fruitful ministry in preaching missions and retreats, and in writing books and articles for various periodicals. He passed on to that perfect Contemplation of the Beatific Vision, to which he was so devoted and loved so much, at Buckfast Abbey, on Jan. 19, 1926. Read More Read Less
