Leavitt is a curator at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., where her exhibition subjects have included low-income renter eviction, community policing and the history of the parking garage. She is the editor of Taliesin Diary: Year with Frank Lloyd Wright (Norton, 2013) and the author of From Catharine Beecher to Martha Stewart: A Cultural History of Domestic Advice (University of North Carolina Press, 2002).
