Sandra L GardnerMsGardner is currently Director of Professional Outreach Consultation, a national and international consulting firm established in 1980. Ms Gardner plans, develops, teaches and coordinates workshops on perinatal/neonatal /pediatric topics. Ms Gardnerhas worked in neonatal/perinatal/pediatric care since 19657 as a clinician (37 years of direct patient care), practitioner, teacher, author and consultant. Ms Gardner was the first Perinatal Outreach Educator in the country funded by the March of Dimes and consulted with numerous March of Dimes grantees to help them establish perinatal outreach education programs. In her role as Perinatal Outreach Educator and Coordinator, she taught nurses and physicians in Colorado and the seven surrounding states how to recognize and stabilize at-risk pregnancies and sick neonates. In 1978 she won the Gerald Hencmann award from the March of Dimes for "outstanding service in the improvement of care to mothers and babies in Colorado" for her work as a Perinatal Outreach Educator. From 1985 to 2006 Ms Gardner co-edited with Gerald B Merenstein, MD six editions of Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care. From 2010 to 2016, Ms Gardner is now the Senior Editor of Merenstein and Gardner's Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care. The first (1985), fifth (2002), seventh (2010) and the eighth (2016) editions of the Handbook have all won American Journal of Nursing: Book of the Year Awards.
