Sander Gabler'Vinny the Vaquita' is Sander Gabler's first work. This young boy loves cetaceans: the group of marine mammals that includes whales and dolphins, as well as their less well-known cousins, the porpoises. Shortly before his third birthday, Sander heardabout vaquitas for the first time, while visiting the Texan island of Galveston with his family, and immediately became enchanted by them. Sander decided that he wanted to do something to try to help save this tiny species from extinction, and so this book was born. The young Sander came up with the story-line himself and named the characters (including the right whale in the tale, named after his grandfather). Sander then played a very active role in directing the illustrations; even at such a young age, his vision for the project was always clear and beautiful and his eye for detail exceptional. Sander also stars in the final two pages of the book, and is joined by his younger sister, Evelyn, on the second of these. Read More Read Less
