Samuel Turvey

Samuel TurveySamuel Turvey is Professor of Conservation Biology at the Institute of Zoology at the ZSL in London. His work focuses on understanding how science can inform and guide practical conservation efforts for some of the world's rarest species, and he has onducted extensive fieldwork in remote regions of China, southeast Asia and the Caribbean.

Sam was one of the founders of ZSL's EDGE of Existence programme, which prioritises species for conservation attention on the basis of their evolutionary history. Much of his research also involves using the fossil record and indigenous knowledge from local communities to gain new insights that can help save threatened species.

Sam was awarded the Linnean Medal in 2019 for his contributions to zoology. Read More Read Less
