Samantha LewisMy name is Samantha Lewis and I'm from a poor black family from Birmingham, AL. My book covers my elementary and high school years, which lead to an early marriage and not graduating. I enlisted in the Air Force, my first marriage ended, but I compleed college and became a commissioned officer. While stationed at Langley AFB, VA., I remarried and hand a child. I became ill and was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. I became very ill so much that the Air Force retired me. I returned to Alabama and the circumstances began which led to me writing my book. I had my third child but my marriage is falling apart, my mother dies, my family is fighting, two of my brothers die and I end up on cocaine.
