Sally HarveyAlthough retired from academia for ten years, Sally preferred to write this book under her professional name, her maiden name, Dr Sally Harvey. Sally was an academic historian specialising in the Norman Conquest and Domesday. Over her fifty-year carer, she lectured and researched at the Universities of Oxford, Leeds and Cambridge and, in 2014, published her much-praised book, Domesday, Book of Judgement. In one of the chapters, The Mastermind, she documents her research into the six most likely candidates who might have been the architect of Domesday. Rannulf Flambard's case is written at length and illustrates the depth to which she worked to understand this remarkable man. It is perhaps no surprise that, in her retirement, she decided to write about Rannulf, someone she greatly admired, someone who was rarely described in good terms by the Chroniclers of Medieval times, yet who achieved so much of lasting importance to England.
