Sachi Routray

Sachi RoutraySachi Routray (1916-2004). Sachidananda, popularly known as Sachi Routray, has been hailed as the inaugurator of a new age in Odia poetry. His fame as a poet of new trends and sensibility rests on the publication of Pandulipi (1947) and Kabita 1962 (962), which helped him break away from the cramping romantic tradition of Odia poetry, initiated by the Sabuja poets. He became a household name in Odisha after the publication of Pallishree and Baji Rout. He had a career that spanned over more than fifty years as a poet, essayist, literary critic, story writer and novelist. His collections include Patheya, Bhanumatira Desh (poetry), Chitragrib (novel), Mashanira Phul (short story). He received the Jnanapith, India's highest literary award, apart from the Soviet Land Nehru award and Sahitya Akademi award. Government of India conferred on him Padmashri, country's fourth highest civilian award for his overall contribution to art and literature. Read More Read Less
