S K KulshresthaS. K. Kulshrestha is a nationally known senior Urban and Regional Planner. His professional qualifications include B Arch (1963), PG Dip.# T&CP (1967) and Ph D (1980). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Town Planners, India (FITP). D Kulshrestha has vast experience of five decades in teaching, research and professional practice in India and Nigeria. As an academician, he has taught post graduate students at School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (SPA-D) (1967-1973), Ahamadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria (1973-1986) and again at SPA-D until 2016. As a researcher, one of his major contributions has been preparation of Guidelines (1988) for Urban Development Plan Formulation and Implementation (UDPFI) for Ministry of Urban Affairs (now Housing and Urban Affairs), Government of India, which is being widely followed for preparation and implementation of master plans in country. Dr Kulshrestha is currently associated as senior consultant on the research project of Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), on Land Use Planning and Management for formulation of Land Use Policy for Odisha and Tamil Nadu states. Since 1994, he has been the Founder Editor of Spatio-economic Development Record, an academic Journal in spatial planning.
Dr Kulshrestha has contributed to preparation of Master Plans of five cities in India as a part of government service or consultancy (Gangtok,
Singrauli, Korba, Lucknow and Kanpur) and four in Nigeria (Bichi, Gaya, Zaria and Kaura Namoda Polytechnic). He also participated in the revision of Master Plan for Delhi 2001 and the National Capital Region (NCR) Plan 2001.
The key positions held by Dr Kulshrestha in the past include: Partner, Satish Jeevan & Associates, New Delhi (1987-1994); Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria (1980-1985); and Director, Centre for Research Documentation and Training (CRDT), ITPI (1986-2001). He has been Chairman/Member of several committees. One of the most important recent Committees is The National Building Code 2016, Sectional Committee (CED 46) where he was one of the members representing ITPI. He also served on its various panels like Panel on Development Control Rules, Panel on Landscaping and Panel on Sustainability. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Committee on Conditions of Engagement of Professional Services and Scale of Professional Fees and Charges, constituted by ITPI, which will guide the professional practice in urban and regional planning in India.
Dr Kulshrestha has published/presented in national and international journals/conferences, more than 80 papers and written 2 books,
including Urban and Regional Planning in India: A Handbook for Professional Practice, published by SAGE in 2012. Read More Read Less
