Rt Philip A RahmingAt the age of 14 years, Philip, the son of Arthur and Rebecca Rahming, was stricken with that deadly typhoid fever. Privately, the doctor attending him told his parents that he would not live, or if he did, he would be no good to himself or to societ. But miraculously, however, Philip recovered to be a normal child. Upon recovery, the youth returned to his books and studied up to the Senior Cambridge Level. He worked at the Telecommunications Government Department first as a telegraphist and later as an accountant. Meanwhile he kept on studying. In September, 1961, Philip got enrolled at Calabar Theological College, Kingston, Jamaica. He graduated in May, 1965, he was ordained and installed as pastor of Kemp Road Mission Baptist Church in August of that same year. In 1967 Rahming was appointed chaplain to The Bahamas House of Assembly, now Parliament. He resigned in 1968 to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. There he received both his Master of Divinity Degree and the Post Graduate Master of Theology Degree. Later he read for his Doctor of Ministry Degree at United Theological Seminary in Dayton Ohio. The Rev. Dr. Rahming served as president of The Bahamas Christian Council, 1977 to 1980 and from 1983 to 1986. In 1979 it was his special privilege to welcome his holiness Pope John Paul II to The Bahamas in a very brief stopover in the region from Latin America to Rome. At the time of CHOGM, (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in Nassau Bahamas, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II opened Elizabeth Estate in the Eastern Section of New Providence. Dr. Rahming led the prayers. The Rev. Dr. Rahming wrote the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, as well as the National Song: God Bless Our Sunny Clime. This song was the first runner up to the National Anthem written by the Rt. Hon. Timothy Gibson. In 2019, the government of The Bahamas honored the author of the pledge with the title the Right Honorable. Presently he is pastor of Rehoboth Global Ministry.
