As part of her 2021 birthday list, Queen Elizabeth bestowed Downey with an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the Arts, Drama, and to the Community in Northern Ireland. She is a longtime supporter of Operation Smile, Compassion International, and received a Sally Award from the Salvation Army for her contribution to entertainment and helping those in need.
