As an award-winning sportswriter for the Miami Herald, Gannett News Service and The Milwaukee Journal, he was the recipient of over forty-five nationalwriting awards including his being chosen as the top Sports News Writer of The Year in the United States by the Associated Press Sports Editors Association in 1977.After leaving journalism in 1988, Roger served as the Director of Public Relations at Road America, the largest motor sports road course in North America, and at the same time continued to be a contributor to numerous magazines, including Inside Sports, Indy Car Magazine and Auto Racing Digest.
