Roberta LavineRoberta Z. Lavine (Ph.D., Catholic University of America, 1983) is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Maryland, where she is also Adjunct Associate rofessor in English as Second/Foreign Language. She teaches business Spanish and Cross-Cultural Communication at the undergraduate level and TESOL at the graduate level. Her interests include educational technology and second language pedagogy. She was a Fulbright scholar in Chile and co-edited a volume on technology and teacher training, Preparing and Developing Technology-proficient L2 Teachers. She co-directs a program for educational reform in Latin America, where she implemented the Diplomado en Educacion Universitaria, the first of its kind in Ecuador. She was named Professor Emerita at the Universidad Tecnologica Equinoccial, Ecuador, for her numerous efforts on behalf of Ecuadorean education. Lavine has received the University of Maryland Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology, as well as a major grant to transform classes from a traditional to a blended format.
