Robert H HogeRobert Hatcher Hoge is often described as a renaissance man, a person who is skilled in multiple fields or multiple disciplines and has a broad knowledge base. At age 14, he hopped a train car running away from home, but was retrieved and returned tohis family. His vocation started as a blacksmith, but Bob finished Virginia Tech in mechanical engineering after his father passed away. As a famed debater, it was said that he missed his calling by studying engineering. During the Great Depression, he was an executive in New York, where he also had an art studio. A homeless man who found shelter in the studio passed away, but Bob memorialized him with a ceramic bust before he was removed. After a long career with Clark Controls, Bob and his wife Marjorie moved to Carmel Valley, where he worked on his bronzes and paintings while Marjorie created pottery. Later in life, he also became a writer. This book is about his life story. Starting with his memories of growing up as the son of a preacher in Charleston, S.C., he reflects on a life well-lived.
