Richard OostwalRichard Oostwal was born in 1933 in Amsterdam. From 1967, he has lived in Apeldoorn, and is high school educated. He has made many travels; besides Europe he has also travelled in Asia and the USA, and has visited Canada several times. His hobbies ar filming, photographing, drawing, writing and working on his computer. He wrote columns in a local newspaper for years, and helped to find host families for a yearly reception of Canadian vets. The English version of this story is signed Trudy Butcher. Trudy was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1947. After moving to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, at a very young age, she attended elementary school and high school and received her teaching certificate from the University of Saskatchewan. She lives in Saskatoon with her daughter and two dogs. She retired in 2012 after a long career in various positions in education. She continues to work with children as a tutor. She has two sons and their wives, and six grandchildren. Her favourite pastimes are reading murder-mystery novels, gardening, and spending time with her grandkids. She visited Apeldoorn for the first time in 2003, accompanying a veteran from the Royal Regina Rifles, Fred Kidd, who was 94 at that time. It was then that she met Richard Oostwal and heard some of his memories of wartime. She returned in 2005, again with Fred Kidd, to attend the 60th anniversary of the liberation. What a party!
