Richard MayneRichard Mayne is a resident Research Fellow in Biocomputing at the University of the West of England (UWE), UK. Having originally qualified and practiced as a Biomedical Scientist, he moved to research and received his PhD in Computer Science i 2016. He specialises in the design and fabrication of biocomputing devices which harness emergence, complexity andcognitioninlivecells, towardsfindingnewmaterialsandapplicationsfor computing technologies, in addition to describing poorly understood natural phenomena in algorithmic terms. Richard has worked at UWE's Unconventional Computing Laboratory since 2013 and has participated in a number of projects, including developing a range of heterotic, intracellular and morphological slime mould (Physarum) computers, doing non-Boolean collision-based computation with liposomes and reprogramming ciliary dynamics in live cells.
