Like all New Yorkers, he therefore considers himself an authority on the enormous benefits and not inconsiderable drawbacks the city offers. Even while attending boarding school, he spent eery weekend at home on the Upper West Side. A graduate of Cornell University, Richard holds a PhD from Columbia's Graduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences. His teaching career spanned fifty years in the classrooms of Brooklyn College and New York University, where he taught Shakespeare Studies. He has published a scholarly book and more than a dozen journal articles on the topic.
