Richard GereRichard Gere, the American actor, is a dedicated humanitarian who works on behalf of Tibetan causes, the homeless, and people living with HIV and AIDS. He is a cofounder of Tibet House and chair of the board of the International Campaign for Tbet, where he focuses on issues of human rights and cultural preservation. Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, he has played a leading role in fundraising for AIDS research and support organizations in the United States.
