Initially focused on astronomy and science fiction, she shifted her academic interests to archaeology and fantasy during university, specializing i the Nile Valley, particularly Meroe in Sudan. This allowed her to escape Canadian winters for desert excavations while pursuing a PhD in archaeology at Cambridge. Rebecca's global journey included Northern Ireland, Kuwait, Hong Kong, and Western Canada, where she taught archaeology and wrote novels, including The Gil Trilogy, Temutma, and Cadon, Hunter, as well as short story collections.
