This time, Bitter finds herself back in Las Vegas, where murder, monsters and mayhem ensue. The first book of the series, "Bitter," includes the short story "Bitter Blood" and the novel "Bitter Nights." This crime noir meets urban fantasy series does NOT feature vampires, sparkling or not. Bitter, a BIPOC homicide detective, works in a diverse Sacramento that exists around the corner and one dimension over from the "real" Sacramento. Days may seem normal, but the night is filled with strange happenings that a tough cop may, or may not, accept as reality. The next Bitter book, "Bitter Dreams," will be available in 2024.de Jauregui also writes garden articles, a garden column, and released "50 Fabulous Tomatoes for Your Garden." It provides a little history plus the description and seed or plant sources for 50 mouth-watering varieties of tomatoes. It also has a how-to-grow section with information on germinating, transplanting, watering and fertilizing tomatoes. Her cookbook, "The Soul of California - Cooking for the Holidays," features her own California Soul recipes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Super Bowl Sunday, including scrumptious California-style black-eyed peas, smoked turkey, baked ribs, and sweet potato pie.A steamfunk novel is still simmering on the back burner. This alternate history of California and the United States features events in the mid-1800s in the independent state of Califa, a member of the vast African empire that flourished after the Moors defeated the last remnants of Isabella's and Ferdinand's armies in Spain. In the next pot over on the back of the creative stove, a four-book urban fantasy series is also simmering. Still no vampires or zombies, though there are ghosts and magic and the Fae.
