His articles have appeared in magazines and journals suchas Design Quarterly, Interior Design, The New York Times and House and Garden, and his other books include The Design of Herman Miller and By Design: Why There Are No Locks on the Bathroom Doors in the Hotel Louis XIV and Other Object Lessons. He has a wide-ranging client list that includes the American Institute of Architects, the Center of Advanced Research in Design, the Office of Charles Ray Eames, Herman Miller Inc., IBM, CBS, The Smithsonian Institution, Hallmark Cards and UNESCO. Many design schools, universities with design departments, museums and professional design societies have invited Caplan to speak.
