Paul VanDornPaul VanDorn was born and raised in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood on the city's south side. In the summer of 1982, Paul was stabbed and left to die at a bus stop in Chicago's West Lawn neighborhood, and that is where his story would have ended if notfor being found by a couple coming home from a late movie date at the Ford City movie theater. By the grace of God, Paul survived his severe injuries and was released from the hospital several months later. Having missed a third of his senior year, Paul never graduated high school. Instead, he opted to obtain a General Educational Development diploma and joined the workforce. Between the ages of 17 and 30, Paul worked as a steel fabricator, a construction worker, a customer service representative, and a machine operator before landing on a career in law enforcement. Paul spent the next 25 years of his life as a patrol officer and a detective in one of the city's western suburbs.
