Pamela Smith Sscm PhdSister Pamela Smith, SSCM, PhD, has served in the Diocese of Charleston since 2004 in a variety of educational and administrative roles. She is currently director of ecumenical and interreligious affairs for the diocese. She is the author of fifteen ooks. They include prose works on biblical spirituality and environmental ethics and three collections of poetry focused on the experience of racial and ethnic minorities and those living with chronic illness. The Catholic Miscellany has run her biweekly column since 2015. This book reflects research that has been assisted by numerous diocesan personnel and historians who live in South Carolina and have graciously shared their wisdom, as well as stories gleaned from travel around the tri-state area that was the original diocese.
