Showalter worked ten years in the corporate world then entered graduate school, earning an MA in Anthropology from Arizona State University followed y a PhD in Geography from the University of Colorado (Boulder). She became a geography professor, retiring from Texas State University after writing numerous peer-reviewed academic articles and co-editing Geospatial Techniques in Urban Hazards and Disaster Analysis (Springer Publishing). Raylene Bell earned both her BS and MS in Speech Pathology from Texas Tech University (Lubbock). She spent over 40 years in that field working for hospitals, in management, as a consultant, as an expert witness, and in her own clinics.
