Nathan DeanNathan Dean, a native of Elizabethton, Tennessee, received a B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. from Cambridge University. As a physics professor at Iowa State University, he developed methods to model the behavior f quarks; after moving into university administration, he kept on modelling everything in sight, from competitive swimming to the coronavirus pandemic. Now retired from academe, he lives with his wife, Mary, in Atlanta.
