Nancy Rivera SchuylerNancy Rivera Schuyler was born and raised in a minority neighborhood project of the uptown Bronx, New York area. Being the daughter of a pastor, she faced many obstacles and challenges, as she was forced to overcome, many years of bullying, name callng and fighting to survive her environment. These early childhood challenges would later hinder her emotional growth and well-being. Nancy was extremely withdrawn, unable to express herself, labeled as shy, quiet and socially challenged. She developed a true relationship with God, through her writing, which served as an outlet of expression and healing. Her commitment to God helped her face her struggles, through prayer and poetry, as she gained her voice and learned to overcome.
