He has more than 37 years of experience in the field of public health and has the distinction of working at alllevels of health delivery system in the country. During his tenure as National Programme manager in the National AIDS Control Programme, he has been at the forefront in the planning and execution of effective HIV surveillance system, and has also been involved in the development of HIV estimation approaches in India for almost a decade. He also worked as focal point for management of Blood Transfusion services and Care, Support and Treatment component under National AIDS Control Programme. His last assignment in service was as Deputy Director General and Advisor, looking after National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases.
