Mellissa GyimahMellissa Gyimah is a doctoral student studying literacy language and culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research interests include race and reader response, textual lineages of black students and teachers who instruct those student, and including black texts within the literary canon and positioning theory. Being black British, she is concerned with the lack of variegated black texts that represent black immigrants, as well as African Americans within the high school literary canon and curricula.
