Mary Jean Teachman

Mary Jean TeachmanMary Jean Teachman was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Isabelle and George Dresbach. She attended the University of Detroit, where she studied prelaw and mathematics. She married and had two children, Arthur Forrest Tull and Valarie Tull. She later divorced, was single for four years, married Mort Lieberman, and was then widowed after 18 years of marriage. Mary Jean found love again with Gerard Teachman, PhD, and inherited two wonderful sons, Robert and Jonathan; she and Gerry have been married for 31 years. She had a very successful career for eight years as a runway and print model, and she appeared in Vogue magazine. A longtime activist, she started a successful campaign-"Real Americans Buy American Cars" (RABAC)-in the late 1970s. She started this grassroots movement because the American auto industry was in a severe slump. Her idea was to help convince the American public to support American car companies in their struggle against foreign imports, and save jobs in the process. She distributed bumper stickers and gave interviews to the print and broadcast media. At one point, a representative from the Japanese government came to interview her because they felt threatened by this movement. Gradually, the unions adopted the project, which developed into their "Buy American" campaign. Mary Jean was president of Groesback Investments for three years and a board member for 10. In Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, she sits on the board of the John E. Upledger Foundation, an international health-care resource center recognized worldwide for its comprehensive education programs, advanced treatment options, and unique outreach initiatives. She was also president of the Juno Beach Chapter of the Florida Shore and Beach Renourishment project in the early 1990s. She was president of her homeowner's board in Juno Beach, Florida, and has been active in numerous charities. She has also served as a chairperson for many charitable events. Mary Jean's past hobbies have included being an avid gardener, a gourmet cook, and an investor, but her primary interest has been her family. She and her husband reside in Juno Beach, Florida, and Asheville, North Carolina. She just turned 91, and considers it a privilege to have reached this age. She is now looking forward to being 100 years old. Read More Read Less
