Mary E BurnsMary Burns expresses her love of northern woodlands and waters in her weavings and writings. An award-winning weaver, Mary creates weavings, feltings and eco-printed work that reflect the hues and patterns of the natural world. Her jacquard loom, a T-2 that she's named Brigid Mariah, allows her to craft her work in exceptional detail, vibrancy, and character. Mary gathers inspiration from many places and cultures. Her looms include two Jacquard looms and a Cranbrook rug loom. She teaches an array of textile art classes as well.Her Ancestral Women Exhibit: Wisconsin's Twelve Tribes, which honors and celebrates one woman from each of Wisconsin's 12 Native American Tribes, was completed in 2016, and continues to tour. She has also participated in several art and science residencies.Mary is also a writer. Her first novel Heartwood (2003) is a fantasy/natural history novel for young adults.
