His career includes being a primary school teacher in Zambia, an academic at the University of Nottingham, a local authority officer and the principal of a large international school inThe Netherlands. He has published widely on children's reading and co-edited the highly successful Literacy Land reading scheme. He holds degrees from Oxford, London and Nottingham universities.
