Maria Montoya Maria E. Montoya, Ph.D., earned her doctorate from Yale University in 1993 and her Bachelor of Arts from Yale in 1986. She is an associate professor of history at New York University, as well as the dean of arts and science at New York University, Shnghai. She was previously an associate professor of history and the director of Latina/o studies at the University of Michigan. Her specialties include western, labor, Latina/o and environmental history. She is the author of numerous articles as well as the books, Translating Property: The Maxwell Land Grant and the Conflict Over Land in the American West, 1840-1900, and a forthcoming book, A Workplace of their Own. She has taught the U.S. history survey course for more than 25 years and has worked on the AP U.S. history development committee. She also has worked as a consultant to the College Board.
