Lyz Soto

Lyz SotoWinner of the 2014 Ian MacMillan contest for poetry, Lyz Soto is a performance poet and co-founder of Pacific Tongues. She is a long time mentor and coach with its award winning youth poetry program, Youth Speaks Hawai'i, which won the Brave New Voics International Poetry competition in 2008 and 2009, and continues to push the boundaries in spoken arts performance. She has performed in Hawai'i, Aotearoa, Papua New Guinea and the continental United States, and her poetry has been read before the president of Vanuatu. In addition to her performances, she has been published in Hawaii Review, blackmail press 36 - Banninur: A Basket of Food, The Hawai'i Independent, Ke Ka'upu Hehi 'Ale, Na Hua Ea, and Damfino. Her chapbook Eulogies was published in 2010 by TinFish Press. Lyz is working on completing a PhD in English at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, where she teaches composition, spoken arts, Pacific literature, and creative writing.
