Luis Amorim de SousaLuís Amorim de Sousa was born in Angola in 1937. He was raised in Lisbon and Mozambique and is a Portuguese citizen. He is the author of four poetry collections, including Signo da Balança (Sign of Libra) (1968), Nort a sul (North to South) (1981) an Oceanografia (Oceanography) (1984). In addition to his poetry, he wrote several prose volumes such as O Pico da Micaia (1997) a memoir about his adolescence in Mozambique. He also lived in the United States, Brazil, and England, where he served as the director the Portuguese division of the BBC. Upon returning to Portugal he was employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was later appointed Press Advisor to the Embassy of Portugal in Washington, D.C., a post he held for nearly twenty years.
