Livingston T MerchantLivingston Merchant graduated from Harvard College in 1963 in Slavic studies. He holds doctorates from Harvard University in International Relations and Brown University in Asian History. He has worked as an educator for thirty years in Europe and Asa, at Robert College in Istanbul and at Bilkent University in Ankara. Before retiring, he served as a professor at the University of Raparin in Ranya in Iraqi Kurdistan. He lives in Maastricht, in the Netherlands, where he has written The Shades of Istanbul, a short novel about the supernatural nature of love, and Simply Sorani Kurdish, an elementary introduction to the language of Iraqi Kurdistan.
