Linda ElliottRichard V. Elliott loved steamboats and grew up near the Hudson River in Yonkers, New York. As he put it: "I arrived in time to see the last of the steamboats, but too late for their glory days." He started researching the history of New York Harbor xcursion steamboats of the 19th and 20th centuries as a young man. He was fortunate to be able to interview crew members who knew the old boats well. Shortly before he died, he finished writing the stories of more than 60 day passenger steamboats that plied New York waters. Richard earned a degree in engineering from the US Merchant Marine Academy and received the Congressman Wainwright award for outstanding student of American history and government.
