Lilly BarnesLilly Barnes is the author of A Hero Travels Light, a book of interrelated short stories published in 1986, and of the novel Mara, published in 2010. She is also the author of five books for children. She was a freelance Arts Journaist for the cbc for many years, as well as senior script writer for the children's television show Mr. Dressup for which she received the 2007 Gemini Award: the Margaret Collier Award for writing, for Outstanding Body of Work. Lilly was married to the late Canadian composer Milton Barnes and has two sons, Micah and Daniel, both musicians. The Literary/Musical event Jazz for Mara was based on Lilly's novel, with original music composed by Daniel and lyrics by Micah, and was performed by all three, accompanied by Daniel's band.
