She was born in Sri Lanka and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1970 to Boston, Massachusetts. She obtained a Bachelor f Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and specialized in Satellite Telecommunications and after 40 years in Corporate America in Technical Operations and Sales, she retired in December 2014. She was fortunate enough to work for companies that had businesses in the US and abroad and spent several years in Asia, as an expatriate in Malaysia and Singapore.
