LICI DengLici learned the alphabet letters at the age of 13. It was not because she was illiterate. As a new immigrant from China, the language barrier was just a temporary challenge for her. Lici not only learned to read and write English, she pressed on to ursue a higher education in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
