Les HawthorneLes has been involved in EMS for over 22 years. For twenty of those years he has been a paramedic. He has served both as a volunteer and a career EMS provider. He has been certified as an EMT, an EMT-I, and as a paramedic. He has functioned as an EMSprovider, supervisor, shift commander, operations manager, and as a coordinator with fire and EMS response agencies. He has also served as a lead EMS instructor and as an EMS coordinator of a college paramedic program. He has had a part in the training or continuing education of hundreds of paramedics and thousands of first responders and emergency medical technicians. He has experience in the fire service, emergency communications, hazardous materials, specialized rescue, and in law enforcement in addition to EMS. He has served as a chaplain for multiple public safety agencies and associations. Les is currently an instructional designer with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute Headquarters (MFRI) of the University of Maryland where he creates training programs for the seven hundred fire service instructors and one hundred and eighty-five EMS instructors in the system. He is the chair of the EMS text committee and serves on the ATRA certification committee as well as having responsibilities with the IFSAC and Pro Board accreditation for the state of Maryland.
