Lee R McMurrin

Lee R McMurrinLee R. McMuRRin was boRn in Wakarusa, Indiana, where his father Albert Raymond McMurrin was pastor of the Congregational Church. As a minister of the Gospel, he moved around a lot, establishing new churches and serving as pastor of small town churche and country churches. The family was intact and moved with him, making all the necessary adjustments. Lee married Frances McMurrin and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 51 years. His career in education spans more than 40 years, starting as a fifth grade teacher in a small Ohio school district. He went on to hold positions as an elementary supervisor in three Ohio school districts before becoming deputy superintendent of schools in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. McMurrin subsequently accepted the position of superintendent of schools in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and served for 12 years. Before retiring, he was superintendent of schools in Beechwood City Schools (Ohio) for seven years. Dr. McMurrin earned a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Toledo in Ohio, an M.S. in educational administration from the University of Cincinnati (Ohio), and B.S. in Secondary Education from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois, graduating with honors at all three institutions. Dr. McMurrin also completed two summer sessions of postdoctoral studies at Harvard University. He served as president of the Council of Great City Schools 1984-1985. Dr. McMurrin was invited to the White House by Presidents Johnson, Carter and Reagan. He traveled to Israel and Japan at the invitation of the Ministers of Education of those nations.
