L Roi BoydL. Roi Boyd, III is a Professor of Speech and Drama at Virginia State University. He received his MFA degree from Virginia Commonwealth in 2002 in Theatre Pedagogy. He is a professor, guitarist, drummer, and actor; he has been teaching and directing n educational, community, and professional theatre for nearly thirty years in Virginia and North Carolina. He is a historian in African-American film history specializing in race movies and Soul Cinema. Boyd is also a musician, radio host and renown speaking for Unity Worldwide Ministries. He is also a filmmaker, having directed the RLP Productions film Bell Blu in 2008. In addition, he served as co-producer of the film Black Wall Street: The Money, The Music, The People in addition to co-writing the theme song to the movie. Boyd serves as Co-Founding Artistic director of Cultural Libations, a multidisciplinary arts & humanities company. As a scholar, Roi has presented research and moderated panels for The Black Theatre Network, The Southern Theatre Conference, the Gordon Parks Celebration Conference, and the Culturing The Popular Conference.
