The Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, the product of his translation, was released. Betwen 1883 and 1896, Pratap Chandra Roy (1842-1955), a bookseller in Calcutta who owned a printing press and gathered money for the undertaking, translated the work into English prose.
