Karen Wyman VardamanBorn and raised in Laguna Beach, California, Karin's love of the ocean inspired her to study Marine Science in California and Mexico. Karin spent most of her career in environmental education and non-profit leadership with a focus on marine conservaton and maritime history. While in California she obtained her 100- ton Coast Guard Certified Captain's license and sailed tallships off California's Channel Islands for nearly 24 years. She also competed in open ocean distance swims, as well as local sprint triathlons.In 2011, her passion turned to the wild wolf and, during the last nine years, Karin has become a leader in wolf conservation, focusing on mitigating wolf-livestock conflicts. Because of her important work, Karin was highlighted in the July 9, 2019 issue of The New Yorker Magazine, The Persuasive Power of the Wolf Lady.An avid writer since childhood, Karin writes professionally and personally, penning two national, award-winning education programs. Because of her background in education, she aspired to write a children's book not only designed to spark imagination, but to provide an educational element, as well.
