Julia PhillippiJulia Phillippi, PhD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, earned a bachelor of arts degree from Maryville College, a master of science degree from Vanderbilt University, and a PhD in nursing from University of Tennessee Knoxville. She has been active in midwifery pracice, teaching, and research; over the course of her career, she has provided midwifery services in homes, birth centers, and hospitals in both rural and urban areas. She has been a midwifery educator for 17 years and currently serves as Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Her research has been funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Institute of Nursing Research, among others. She has publications in a variety of perinatal journals and has made numerous presentations at midwifery and health services-related conferences. Her awards include the American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation Excellence in Teaching and Kitty Ernst Awards, March of Dimes of Middle Tennessee Nurse Researcher of the Year, and Outstanding Peer Reviewer and Best Review Article from the Journal of Midwifery & Women's Health.
