He joined the Florida Highway Patrol in 1986 and worked a patrol and drug canine for nineteen years. He became a traffic homicide sergeant in Miamiand the Florida Keys for seven years. His efforts, and those of the Troop E canine squad, were responsible for keeping the FHP at the forefront of the cocaine wars in South Florida during one of the most violent periods in Miami history.
