Jorge Guitart

Jorge GuitartJorge Guitart, a Cuban by birth and a Buffalonian by choice, emigrated to the U.S. in 1962 and has been a U.S. citizen since 1971. He has published poetry in English in the U.S., and poetry in Spanish in the U.S., Spain, and Latin America. In recent ears he has been writing almost exclusively in English. He has also translated U.S. poets into Spanish and Hispanic poets into English. He holds a B.A. degree in psychology from George Washington University (1967), and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Spanish linguistics from Georgetown University (1970, 1973). Since 1973 he has been at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. He is adjunct professor of Learning & Instruction and associate faculty in the Department of Comparative Literature. He teaches courses in Spanish linguistics, applied linguistics, and humanities, including the multicultural course American Pluralism and The Search for Equality, which he helped design. He is widely published in Spanish linguistics.
