Kinkel is a Lecturer in the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University, where his research has focused on the intersection between comparative politics, law and society, and Chinese studies. Beginning in 2022, he wil also be affiliated with the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. He is a past recipient of the Best Graduate Student Paper award from Law & Social Inquiry (LSI), and his research has appeared in journals including LSI, China Quarterly, and the Journal of East Asian Studies.
