John C Warren

John C WarrenJohn C. Warren was an American doctor, born on August 1, 1778, and died on May 4, 1856. In 1846, he gave William T.G. Morton permission to give Warren ether anesthesia while he did a small surgery. When this was the first time surgical anesthesia wasshown to the public, word quickly spread around the world. He was the third president of the American Medical Association and helped start the New England Journal of Medicine. He was the first Dean of Harvard Medical School and one of the people who started the Massachusetts General Hospital. His father, John Warren, was a well-known doctor who taught at Harvard and helped start Harvard Medical School. His uncle, Dr. Joseph Warren, was also a doctor. In 1797, he got his degree from Harvard College and started studying medicine with his father. In 1799, he went to London, Paris, and Edinburgh to study medicine.
